Need someone to dig deep into your community’s newest business or inform them of events going on in town? Sign me up! At the Springfield Daily Citizen, where I am currently interning, I focus my writing on my community’s business and entertainment scenes. I love getting to inform the community about all of the exciting things Springfield has to offer while also getting to meet so many new people. I can’t wait to meet even more of you and tell all of your stories.

This has been one of my favorite stories to write so far. I got the privilege to talk to Asa, the owner of the bakery, Asa Al-Furat, who came to the US as a young child seeking refuge from the war in Iraq. She took that as an opportunity to make her dreams come true while also getting to share her culture with the community.

This story was super fun tow write and collaborate on! Me and my coworker, Ellie Frysztak tag-teamed this assignment in Kansas City. I interviewed a few Springfield natives prior to the concert and Ellie got to follow them to KC and photograph the concert!

It showed that maybe there is a call for change to some employers in Springfield.

This story was one of my very first assignments. It holds a special place in my heart knowing that I was able to talk to Owen and help push his career further. I had such a great time getting to talk to someone who is also trying to build their career and find their voice.
